Our aim is to provide affordable high-level triathlon training programs, coaching and advice to our clients, on a global scale. We also aim to assist athletes to achieve their short and long term triathlon racing goals. The level of service we offer is second to none and we pride ourselves on customer satisfaction. It is a well known fact that most athletes require coaching to reach their potential. This is for a number of reasons, such as: guidance, support, physiological knowledge, motivation etc. Being athletes ourselves made the progression to coaching much easier, as we understand what athletes want in a coach and what it takes to reach the elite level. Our combined coaching experience also helped.
 
We also offer advice on all aspects of triathlon training and racing (i.e. nutrition, recovery, and skills) to our clients. All of our customized programs are periodised and tailored to the individual needs of our clients.

Our Triathlon Coaching Philosophy

At Training Smart Online, We believe that every person is different and therefore needs a training program geared specifically to their personal ability, taking into account any strengths or weaknesses, time available and circumstances. We do not necessarily believe in the squad training mentality where everyone does the same training, as either the best aren't working hard enough or the athletes with lower ability are working too hard. As typically happens, everyone ends up doing what is best for the top athletes in a squad. It takes a lot of hard work to give everyone the correct training in a squad situation, and many coaches wouldn't know where to start.
We also believe that clocking up huge mileage alone will not make a good athlete. Mileage is important, but you have to make sure that you also prepare specifically for your event, particularly in the 8 weeks before an event.
Training age and history is also very important. It is a waste of time trying to copy the training that top athletes or other people are doing, especially if you don't have the same background. Athletes often know what does and doesn't work for them from their past training, this can be very helpful in getting the program right early on.
When developing our programs, we do not only draw upon our own knowledge and experience, but also that of many other elite athletes and experts, including former world champions and other professional coaches. We also draw upon the extensive current research available in the area of physiology and sport science. Athletes must be wary of coaches that ‘burn’ their athletes with outdated coaching methods that ultimately will not result in the athlete achieving his or her goals. This is the basic notion behind our company name ‘Training Smart Online’.
Many coaches don't take the time to look at the big picture of say 2 to 3 years, and they don't care if they burn through a few athletes to get a champion. We aim to do the best we can with each individual that we work with, plain and simple. You don't have to want to be the next Olympic champion, although this is a worthy goal, you just have to want to be supported by a knowledgeable, practical and realistic coach.
We also believe that having a good plan is not enough. Athletes need the ability to make changes and reschedule workouts from time to time and it is the role of a coach to ensure that the athletes get the best out of what is left between now and their major event. We don't believe that it is good enough to just simply tell athletes to miss the next day of training and get back into the program.
